Public Interest Data Consulting
About
I bring a decade of experience to data project development across a number of public interest sectors (non-profit, academia, and government).I have an MS in Data Analytics and Computational Social Science from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, and a BA in Government and Applied Legal Studies from Suffolk University. I specialize in the following areas:
Data Management: I extract information locked behind Microsoft Excel files or PDF documents and turn it into ready-to-analyze, standardized and cleaned data tables
Descriptive and inferential statistics: I track and analyze trends, spot patterns, and extract meaning from raw numbers with explainable analysis that is accessible to non-technical stakeholders
Data visualization and dashboard development: I create beautiful graphs and interactive charts that can visually communicate important information and allow users to drill down on results
Program evaluation: I develop methodologies to effectively measure the impact of a program or initiative
Information retrieval: Through access to multiple relevant data sources as well as through web scraping, I can help create new datasets and enhance existing datasets
Representative Projects
Massachusetts Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) Explorer
This dashboard retrieves monthly zip code-level data on ACP enrollment figures for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It compares enrollment to monthly caseloads reported by the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA), and aggregates the information at the municipal and state levels
Who Has the Ear of the FCC? Ex Parte Research
This information retrieval project scraped the FCC's net neutrality docket to download and process all ex parte filings. It identified filings referencing meetings with FCC commissioners and categorized the data to explore whether commissioners were meeting with different interest groups (industry, consumer advocacy) at the same rate
Measuring the Effect of Data Sharing on Program Enrollment
Compiled a dataset of program enrollment and application rejection rates for a federal subsidy program to measure the effect that data sharing had on successful program applications
